http://TorontoBMX.ca
Video is of Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) staff working with Mike Heaton of TorontoBMX, graffiti artist Bubblz (Kedre Browne) and Cst Scott Mills, Toronto Crime Stoppers Community Youth Officer / Toronto Police Service Legal Graffiti Art Coordinator loading up some sheets for new BMX Bike Ramps to install them at a new BMX location at 75 Tandridge Cr, Toronto.
The two BMX legal Graffiti art sheets that were taken to Tandridge from Lamport this date were:
1. a sheet that has "BMX" painted on it.. that was painted at "MayDay", a fundraising event for http://TheGatehouse.org .. a child abuse investigation and support location in Toronto. Richard Baxter, the graffiti art teacher at Humber Summit Middle School in Toronto, known to the kids as 'Mr. Boxta' painted the piece at this event.
2. Kedre is part of the legal graffiti art / B-Boy Crew called 'Tribal Bridgez Crew'. The piece was painted at the 14 Division Community Fun Day, a huge event organized by students in the Empowered Student Partnership program http://ESPOnline.ca at Fort York, Toronto.
The BMX project is a community building activity funded by Mike Heaton personally, and the legal graffiti art is facilitated and funded by Cst Scott Mills and Toronto Crime Stoppers. Community CAVE have also contributed to funds for paint supplies, and operate the Toronto Crime Stoppers T-Shirt Re-Design contest in partnership with Toronto Crime Stoppers. Kids can enter their art work online in the contest at http://CommunityCAVE.com .. then vote on their favourite entries. The winners are chosen when the 2009 contest closes on September 15, 2009 and are eligible to win $500.00 in prizes, and get their art work on the next Toronto Crime Stoppers t-shirt.
The City of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation Department, under the leadership of Allan Crawford has facilitated the BMX Bike Park in Toronto at the Wallace Emerson Community Centre and at Lamport Stadium for the past two years. TorontoBMX facilitates the international TorontoBMX Jam each March at the Toronto International Bicycle Show at the Direct Energy Centre.
Toronto Community Housing under the leadership of Barry Thomas has facilitated the new BMX Bike Park location at 75 Tandridge Cr. The Young Presidents Organization under the leadership of Mr. Court Carruthers funded the building of this park, and members of YPO and their families built the ramps at their 2008 Christmas Party at Ricoh Coliseum.

Arm Graffiti
First video FTW!
I was really bored in 7th period Geometry today, so I just decided to tag up my arm a little bit. It began as just my name, but then I gradually added material to it throughout the day. One or two of my other friends decided to join in lol. They're all mostly names of people I know, along with a couple of other things, including 4 crosses ![]()
A few of my friends saw it and liked what I could write, so they asked me to write their names, and eventually it just became a sleeve of sharpie lol

Kaws, Former Graffiti (Tag) Artist
This segment profiles the artist known as KAWS, former Graffiti (tag) artist turned painter and designer of limited edition toys and clothing. This segment also features some cool clips of KAWS' art, displayed in Pharrell Williams' Miami Home and Kanye West's latest album cover and billboard.
You can catch his next exhibition,
"KAWS, The Long Way Home," February 21,— April 04, 2009 at the Honor Fraser Gallery in LA
http://www.honorfraser.com/?s=upcoming
or
http://www.honorfraser.com
"I just started simply through graffiti and drawing on my skateboard and painting on walls and getting that small recognition," said KAWS, known to his family as Brian Donnelly.
KAWS graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York with a BFA in illustration in 1996. After graduation, KAWS briefly worked for Disney as a freelance animator painting backgrounds. He also contributed to the animated series 101 Dalmations, Daria and Doug.
He began his career as a graffiti artist growing up in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Later moving to NYC in the 1990s, KAWS started subverting imagery on billboards, bus shelters and phone booth advertisements. These reworked advertisements were at first left alone, lasting for up to several months, but as KAWS' popularity skyrocketed, the ads became increasingly sought after.
In addition to NY, KAWS has done work in Paris, London, Berlin and Tokyo.
In the late 90s, KAWS began to design and produce limited edition vinyl toys, "an instant hit with the global art toy-collecting community,"especially in Japan, where this genre is well respected and widespread. More toys and later clothing were made for Original Fake, a recent collaborative store with Medicom Toy, in the Aoyama district of Tokyo where an original limited edition product is released each week.
KAWS has also participated in other commercial collaborations with Takahashi for Undercover, snowboard projects with Burton, and sneakers with Nike and Vans.
His most recent collaboration was with Comme des Garçons.
KAWS' acrylic paintings and sculpture have many repeating images, all meant to be universally understood, surpassing languages and cultures.
One of KAWS' early series, Package Paintings, was made in 2000. This series, entitled The Kimpsons, subverted the famous American cartoon, The Simpsons. KAWS explains that he "found it weird how infused a cartoon could become in people's lives; the impact it could have, compared to regular politics."
In addition, KAWS has reworked other familiar icons such as Mickey Mouse, the Michelin Man and the Smurfs.
Through all of his projects, KAWS has successfully blurred the line between fine art and mass-produced merchandise. He uses his products to allow his imagery to infiltrate a larger audience than that of the fine art world.
The artist is currently an active member in both the commercial and fine art communities.
His work is included in the traveling exhibition "Beautiful Losers," which started at the Cincinnati Contemporary Art Center and will be traveling through 2009 throughout the US and Europe.

Drawing 4 U
The idea was born during a visit to Colombia, in the winter 2004. I often film or take pictures of my work while I am developing them. In `Sandrawings´ the case was different. I created the images for the video because at that moment I didnt have either canvas to paint or paper to draw. In the second part of the video I showed my drawing accompanied by my son. For me the fact of carrying him while doing the work was like giving him his first drawing lesson. Later, when I saw the images and started to work with them, I decided to play with the time frame and create with humor something amusing and at the same time instructive. For me drawing in the sand is to be part of the place, is to integrate my mood with the process. Is to create something without disturbing the order of the place, considering that the rain or the wind would wipe out the little we have created.
Working in open spaces gives a closer relationship with the environment and makes the drawing exercise a form of intense body language. The stick that I use to work with becomes an extension of my arm. As I rotate it around my body, I take an advantage of the movement much more than when I draw on a piece of paper, where the drawing is limited to itself and the movement of the hand.
